Man United icon Michael Owen under fire for telling Kane to snub Bayern Munich for Tottenham
Former Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester United forward Michael Owen has been called a hypocrite and an enemy for suggesting that Tottenham captain Harry Kane should stay in England with Tottenham instead of completing a move to Bayern Munich.
Owen wants Kane to remain in England
Kane is on the verge of completing his move to Bayern Munich after the Bavarians had their latest bid for the England international accepted by Tottenham, but Owen, as well as his former Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher, have suggested that it would be better for the 30-year-old to remain in England.
I know @FCBayern are a massive club and I have huge respect for them but if I were @HKane I’d stay put. There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them. @realmadrid I would understand. Or one or two top @premierleague clubs for that matter. Becoming the all time…

Owen shared his thoughts about the possible transfer on his twitter page, saying, “I know
@FCBayern are a massive club and I have huge respect for them but if I were @HKane I’d stay put.
“There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them. @realmadrid I would understand, or one or two top @premierleague clubs for that matter. Becoming the all time Premier League top goal scorer @SpursOfficial is a bigger achievement than winning the league in a country dominated by 1 team.
Owen trolled for Kane statements
Owen’s comments did not go down well with the football community, many of whom labelled the former Liverpool and Manchester United a hypocrite for his stance.
Owen left boyhood club Liverpool to sign for Real Madrid in Spain and later in his career, joined The Reds’ fierce rivals Manchester United despite the animosity between both clubs and Twitter football fans have asked why he would ask Kane not to leave Tottenham to win trophies the way he did.

Owen is still all about the individual achievement over the team achievement. He shafted Liverpool to move to Madrid on the cheap saying he wanted to challenge for trophies. Bayern fight for trophies every year and have a genuine chance of the Champions League. https://t.co/fhuAxYe7O5

Others also called into question his logic in calling the Bundesliga trophy pointless because Bayern dominate the league since Manchester City also dominate the Premier League and the English title matters to him.
This is why ex footballers shouldn’t be given pundit jobs at all costs. Winning the UCL with Bayern is no great achievement? And is the Premier League any less dominated by City than the Bundesliga is by Bayern at this point? A classic Michael Owen take. https://t.co/6B2786Jaeb

Englishmen still try to pretend it’s outright the most competitive. https://t.co/U0wMBqUyLJ
It would be ok to go to one of the top 2 in EPL but not to Bayern because it’s a league dominated by 1 team. Nothing between the ears. https://t.co/DgSj9KPSNv pic.twitter.com/SNmuKkeelv
