Ruben Amorim's side are in need of a forward this summer as they look to bolster their attacking ranks after the signing of Mathues Cunha.
The Red Devils saw their approach for Sporting Lisbon striker Gyökeres rebuffed after making a move to sign him.
Man United move to next target
According to the Mirror, via Sportal, the Red Devils are prepared to ramp up their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike.
The 24-year-old French international garnered significant attention last season, scoring 23 goals for the German side. He is believed to be on the radar of not only Manchester United but also their fierce rivals, Liverpool.
However, acquiring Ekitike could prove to be a complicated endeavor. Eintracht Frankfurt has reportedly set an €80 million price tag on their star striker and appears unwilling to budge.
Sporting director Markus Krösche told Wiesbadener Kurier, "If the price isn't right, he'll simply stay with us. We don't need to sell Randal."
This stance could present a problem for Manchester United, which may be hesitant to spend such a substantial sum.
While Ekitike had a strong season in Frankfurt, the Frenchman is yet to consistently perform at the highest level, making such a fee seem unrealistic, even risky. It remains to be seen whether a deal can be reached.
