The result in Philadelphia was especially meaningful for Jefferson, who not only snatched the 200m win but also did so against one of the fastest women in the world.

For Gabby Thomas, the Philadelphia meet marked a break in her winning streak. After dominating her signature event throughout the GST series, this was the first time she failed to win the 200m title in the league. Her second-place finish ended her 200m title run, despite her strong 22.10 showing.

Just days before the Philadelphia leg, Thomas had found success in Miami at the second stop of the Grand Slam Track, held from May 2–4.

There, she bounced back from a fourth-place finish in the 100m to capture the 200m win with a blazing 21.95 seconds — a time faster than Jefferson’s Philadelphia-winning mark.

In that Miami race, Thomas defeated Tamari Davis and Jefferson, who took second and third place respectively.

Gabby Thomas Reflects on Grand Slam Track Journey

Despite her loss in Philly, Gabby Thomas has maintained a positive and focused outlook.

After the Miami meet, she took to Instagram to share her thoughts with fans and followers.

“What a Slam!!! Moved to the short sprints this time and got a win in my marquee event (200m)…but not quite the overall finish I had hoped for. Heading back to Texas with some things to work on. So so grateful for everyone who continues to support me, and I’m feeling soo good," she wrote as per SportsKeeda.

In Miami, Thomas also competed in the 100m dash but did not reach the podium, finishing fourth with a time of 10.97 seconds.

The top three in that event were Melissa Jefferson, Tamari Davis, and Favour Ofili — all major names in the current U.S. sprinting scene.

Though Thomas won the 200m in Miami, she ultimately finished the series with 17 points — just one behind Jefferson’s 18 — denying her the GST title and the $100,000 prize.
