Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum storm Ghana for boxers

After a tough season in the Spanish La Liga, Atletico Madrid forward Memphis Depay is returning to Ghana for the summer vacation. 

The Ghanaian player, who was born in the Netherlands, arrived with AS Roma star and teammate Georginio Wijnaldum.

During their visit to a boxing facility in Accra, Depay and Wijnaldum spoke with local kids and potential boxers.

After enjoying himself at the arena, the former Manchester United forward contributed money for renovations to the gym.

After spending time with a Ghanaian family while growing up in Rotterdam, Wijnaldum, then known as Boateng, is thrilled to connect with the African continent.

The Surinamese parents of the former Liverpool midfielder gave birth to him in Holland, but his father, a Ghanaian, nurtured him.

The two athletes anticipate staying in Ghana for many weeks, with Depay doing his customary charity activities there before departing.

Depay transferred from Barcelona to Atletico Madrid during the winter transfer window.

Depay’s return to Africa comes after he reconciled with his Ghanaian father and Dutch mother on social media.
