Memphis Depay shows off ‘kente’ outfit to visit Manhyia Palace

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has received a courtesy visit from Atletico Madrid forward Memphis Depay in Kumasi. 

Currently on vacation in Ghana, the Netherlands international paid respects to Otumfuo by going to the Manhyia Palace. 

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, Depay uploaded pictures from his trip to Otumfuo's palace to his official Instagram profile. 

The former player for Barcelona and Manchester United was seen in the photos wearing full ceremonial regalia. 

As a demonstration of respect for the famous king, he removed the vibrant kente cloth he was wearing up to his shoulder. 

Depay, a frequent traveler to Ghana, can be seen in one of the pictures standing next to the Asantehene, who is seated to the player's right. 

In the second image, Depay was seated and chatting with Otumfuo. 

Depay was appreciative of the Asantehene for his guidance and inspiration as he shared the pictures.

Along with the photos was a message that said, "Thank you for your words of wisdom and motivation!#ashanti #King #ashantikingdom." 

Depay arrived in Ghana a month ago for the summer vacation with Netherlands teammate Georginio Wijnaldum.

The former Manchester United forward contributed money for renovations to a boxing facilty.

He has since then being spotted with a necklace that has a diamond pendant of his iconic celebration, with his hands in his ears to shut out the noise.

While in Ghana, Depay teamed up with Nigerian disc jockey and producer Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, professionally known as DJ Cuppy.

Depay will now be expected to return to Europe from Ghana for Atletico Madrid's preseason campaign.
