Messi and Ronaldo reunion: Inter Miami star could renew hostilities with rival after new suitor emerges
Lionel Messi is reportedly in discussions with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli as his contract with Inter Miami approaches its end in late 2025, L'Equipe reports.
The 38-year-old Argentine icon has been a transformative player for the MLS side since joining in 2023, contributing significantly with 52 goals and 25 assists in just 64 appearances.
While Inter Miami are eager to extend Messi's current deal, speculation about his future is intensifying, with a potential move to Saudi Arabia now on the table.
Reunion with rival?
In 2023, Messi famously turned down a substantial offer from Al-Hilal, but Saudi Pro League figures apparently remain hopeful of convincing him to join.
Al-Ahli are one of four clubs owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, thus giving them the wherewithal to pursue the 2022 World Cup winner.
If the move materialises, Messi would join former Premier League stars at Al-Ahli, including Roberto Firmino and Riyad Mahrez.
Perhaps more importantly, this would also set up a potential reunion and direct competition with long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently signed a new contract with Al-Nassr.
