Naibois shocked 11-time Tunisian champions Etoile du Sahel, who they beat 2-0 in the first leg of the second preliminary round, at Ulinzi Complex in Nairobi on Sunday.

Ovella Ochieng maintained his fine form when he broke the deadlock after 37 minutes before captain John Otieno scored the second in the 52nd minute.

Nairobi United now just need to avoid defeat in Tunisia this weekend to make it to the group stages while even a 1-0 loss could still be enough in what would be a historic achievement for a team that is newly-promoted to the FKF Premier League.

How Much is at Stake for Naibos?

It would also be a massive statement given Kenyan sides, among them experienced teams like Gor Mahia, have consistently failed to make it to the group stages of continental competition.

While Naibois have earned $100,000 (Ksh12.9 million) from CAF for playing in the preliminary round, they stand to make four times that amount if they complete the job against Etoile du Sahel, home to Harambee Stars defender Alphonce Omija.

Group stage qualification in the Confederation Cup now attracts $400,000 (Ksh51 million) for each team and this is what awaits the Johnson Sakaja-backed club if they can hold onto their lead.

It does not end there as if Naibois reach the quarter-final, they will take home $550,000 (Ksh71 million), semi-final $750,000 (Ksh97 million) while if they make the final, $1 million (Ksh129 million) would be their reward for losing and $2 million (Ksh258 million) if they win the competition.
