MotoGP: Marc Marquez Explains Crash That Cost Him Czech GP Pole Position
The Spaniard held a lead of over 0.2 seconds over his teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, after the first three sectors at the Brno circuit and looked poised to claim the top spot.
However, he crashed in the penultimate corner, ending his lap prematurely. He'll start from second on the grid, which isn't the end of the world.
Marquez explains what led to his crash
Following qualifying, Marquez spoke to the media, via Sportal, explaining that he was distracted by Johann Zarco's crash just ahead of him, leading to his own mistake.
The Ducati rider, however, insisted his crash didn't occur under yellow flags and therefore he wouldn't face a long-lap penalty for Sunday's race.
"No, no, no, there were no yellow flags. I'm okay; I'm happy with second position. My crash was more due to the distraction because we brake very hard in that corner anyway. When Zarco crashed, I saw smoke.
"Naturally, my gaze shifted slightly, I opened the corner a bit more, and lost the front. Today was special, the bike had to be ridden in a special way.
"It was difficult to do the first time attack of the weekend in qualifying, but I'm pleased to be on the front row," said Marquez, who was fastest in Friday's wet practice sessions and the 30-minute FP2 session, held just before qualifying on a dry track.
