Napoli fans unveil banner calling Osimhen ‘peasant’ amidst impending Galatasaray move
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen’s once-glorious relationship with Napoli has taken a sharp turn for the worse.
As his permanent transfer to Galatasaray nears completion, Napoli ultras have sent a brutal message, branding the striker a "peasant" in a public display of anger and betrayal.
Curva A Ultras take aim at Osimhen’s integrity
The banner, unveiled by fans from the Curva A section at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, was brutal, reading, “Osimhen, ignorance will always be the ruling element in your life… Peasant, remember that Maradona played here!”
The Nigerian striker, who joined Napoli for €80 million from Lille in 2020, had become a fan favourite for his goals and passion on the pitch. But that bond began to crumble last summer when he declared he would never play for the club again.
After failing to attract interest from Europe’s top elite clubs, he reluctantly joined Galatasaray on loan as a temporary solution.
Now, with a €75 million permanent move in the works, tensions have boiled over. Fans see his recent act of skipping Napoli’s pre-season camp, even with a medical note, as further proof that he is forcing his way out.
Napoli’s tough transfer stance
Napoli, meanwhile, are doing everything they can to prevent Osimhen from ever returning to Serie A, particularly to Juventus.
Club officials are reportedly pushing for Galatasaray to accept a clause that would slap a significant penalty fee if Osimhen moves back to Italy within two years.
This condition is a direct response to rumours linking the 2023 African Player of the Year with Juventus, even during the current window.
With emotions running high and Napoli fans clearly feeling betrayed, Osimhen’s chapter in Naples appears to be ending in bitterness.
