Napoli manager confirms contract extension and plans for next season
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has confirmed that he will be spending at least another year at the club after the club triggered an extension clause in his contract.
Spalletti earns contract extension with historic Serie A title
Spalletti has led Napoli to a historic Serie A title with the 2022/23 Scudetto already in the bag, their first league title since 1990.
He has now been rewarded with an extended stay at the club after Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis noted that he would be looking to stave off interest from other clubs in the key pieces of the Partenopei’s brilliant 2022/23 campaign.
The president has kept to his word by tying down one of the most important individuals in Spalletti to a new deal, as confirmed by the 64-year-old gaffer himself.
Spalletti grateful for new deal
Speaking after Napoli’s hard-fought win over Fiorentina, which moved them 17 points ahead of the chasing pack, Spalletti thanked De Laurentis and sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli for extending his contract and also stated that plans for next season have already begun in earnest.
Spalletti was quoted as saying, “I’m grateful to the club as they’ve triggered the option to extend my contract until June 2024.
“Our director Cristiano Giuntoli’s already working on the squad and signings for the next season, as we need to work in advance”.
The Italian manager will be hoping that the club can build on the success of this season with a better campaign in the 2023/24 season and it appears he can bank on De Laurentis’ words for an equally strong Napoli squad to select from next season.
