NBA Opening Night: Celtics get rings against Knicks, Lakers welcome Timberwolves

Now that the Olympics in Paris 2024 have concluded, we can officially focus on the 2024–25 NBA season.

According to Shams Charania, opening night at the Los Angeles Lakers on October 22 will pit the Boston Celtics against the New York Knicks and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games, the Celtics earned their 18th title last season—a record for the NBA.

Opening night is always spent at home for the reigning champions.

Therefore the Celtics will play the Knicks inside TD Garden, where they will get their rings and hoist another banner to the rooftops.

The Dallas Mavericks' decision to skip opening night after winning the Western Conference the previous year is a little surprising.

However, you have to give the NBA credit for wanting LeBron James and the Lakers to open the season as favorites.

The Lakers will take on Anthony Edwards, the league's potential future face, and his Timberwolves.

Although the complete schedule isn't available yet, some noteworthy matchups have begun to surface just like the Christmas games.

On January 25 in Dallas, the Celtics and Mavericks will square off for the first time since the 2024 Finals.

A few weeks later, on February 6, in Boston, they will play again in a rematch.
