Newly appointed Kenya Police head coach Dusan Stojanovic has vowed to build on his winning start and prove his team’s quality when they face record FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia this weekend.

The UEFA A-licensed Serbian tactician got off to a perfect start on Wednesday after guiding the reigning champions to a 1-0 victory over Sofapaka at the Police Sacco Stadium in his first game in charge.

The decisive goal came from Harambee Stars forward Edward ‘Ondimo’ Omondi, who found the net against his former club to hand the Law Enforcers a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

Speaking after the match, Stojanovic praised his players for their effort and attitude, but emphasised that his long-term goal is to mold a sharper, more dominant side.

“It’s always nice to win your first match,” said the coach to the media after the game. “I’m a demanding coach — a ‘boring winner,’ as I like to say — because for me, it’s not just about the result but the performance. The boys gave everything today, and this win belongs to them.”

The 51-year-old tactician, who has coached in several European and Middle Eastern clubs, was unveiled by Police on Sunday, November 2, just minutes after watching their goalless draw against Posta Rangers from the stands.

He replaced Etienne Ndayiragije, who was dismissed on October 29 following the team’s 4-1 defeat to Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.

Gor Mahia Clash Just Another Fixture

With his first win secured, Stojanovic’s focus now shifts to the high-stakes clash against Gor Mahia on Sunday, November 9, at Nyayo National Stadium — a match he insists will be approached with calm professionalism despite the derby atmosphere.

“In every league in the world, one game means three points — and that’s how we see it,” he stated. “I know this match means a lot to the fans, but from a professional point of view, it’s still about three points. We’ll prepare and fight for them like we do in every match.”

Stojanovic also hinted that the upcoming FIFA international break will be vital in helping him refine his tactics and understand the squad better.

“My main goal right now is to get the best out of the players as quickly as possible,” he explained. “After the Gor Mahia match, we’ll have time to analyze, organize, and align the team moving forward.”

The Serbian also took a moment to express his admiration for his new home.

“I really like the weather here in Kenya, and the people are so friendly and welcoming,” he said with a smile. “It’s a beautiful country.”

As Police continue their title defense, Stojanovic’s debut win has already lifted the mood in the camp — and with a Gor Mahia showdown next, the Serbian knows there’s no better opportunity to show fans what his “real Silkal” side is capable of.
