'Nigeria have amazing players'- Ex-Chelsea youngster blasts NFF
Former Chelsea youth star Kenneth Omeruo has hit out at the NFF over their lack of direction with the current Super Eagles squad.
Omeruo believes there are many talented players in Nigeria’s team, but the NFF is not helping the team with the uncertainty surrounding the coaching situation.
The Super Eagles play their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in September, but there is no clarification on who will be in charge of the team.
Omeruo not happy with NFF
Jose Peseiro had been in charge of the previous games, but his contract expired last month, with the NFF yet to agree a new deal with him.
Although both parties are expected to hold talks over a new deal, they are unlikely to reach an agreement before the match next month.
As a result, Omeruo has criticised the NFF for failing to sort out the embarrassing situation, saying the players need a stable technical crew to perform like they do at their clubs. The former Middlesbrough man said this in an interview with Arise TV.
“When it comes to talent, Nigeria have amazing players,” the Turkey-based centre-back, told Arise TV.
“Even those that are on the bench in the national team go to their club sides and bang in goals week in, week out.
“We need to have a stable technical crew. A technical crew will take us to where we are supposed to be and give us exactly [the guidance] that we get in Europe.
“We do not even know who will be the coach in the next game. It is crazy, and it has to be fixed,” Omeruo added.
Super Eagles secure AFCON spot
Nigeria play their final AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome on September 10. The three-time African champions have already secured their place in next year’s competition scheduled for January and February in Ivory Coast.
However, the Super Eagles begin their 2026 World Cup qualifying journey in November this year.
