Nigerian Champions overpower Police Ladies in CAF Champions League qualifiers
Nigeria Women’s Football League Champions Bayelsa Queens have begun their quest for the only WAFU B ticket to the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League on a winning note, defeating Ghanaian champions Police Ladies 2-1.
The match, held at the CKB Stadium in Yamoussoukro, saw the "Prosperity Girls" take an early 2-0 lead before their opponents pulled one goal back.
Shakirat Moshood opened the scoring for Bayelsa Queens in the 12th minute, and substitute Emem Essien doubled the lead with a goal just after the hour mark.
The Police Ladies responded six minutes later with a goal from Mary Berko, but the Nigerian side held on to secure the important three points.
Despite the near-empty stadium, Bayelsa Queens displayed a strong performance to see out the game. The victory gives them a solid start in the regional qualifiers.
Bayelsa Queens will play their next match on Wednesday as they look to build on their strong start and move closer to securing a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament later this year.
