Not Mourinho, not Conte - Ex-Premier League star names best manager he has worked with
Eric Dier began his senior career at Sporting Lisbon, the club where he also came through the youth ranks.
This was followed by a decade at Tottenham, then two seasons at Bayern Munich, and as of this summer, the English player is plying his trade in Ligue 1 for AS Monaco.
Throughout his career, Dier has had the opportunity to work with top European managers such as Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel.
What Dier said
However, in an interview with The Telegraph, via GSP, the 31-year-old footballer revealed that the best manager he has had the chance to play under was Vincent Kompany, the current Bayern Munich boss.
Dier worked with Kompany during the 2024/2025 season, a campaign that saw the Bavarians reclaim their dominance in Germany.
"Fortunately, I've had the chance to work with many exceptional coaches. I've learned important things from each of them. The best... hmm, I think it's Vincent Kompany. I had a special relationship with him and I really liked the way he motivated us, the players.
"Perhaps the fact that he's much younger than the others helps him to be understood more easily. I got along well with everyone, but with him (Kompany), it was something special. I would choose him," Eric Dier told The Telegraph.
Vincent Kompany began his coaching career while still an active player at Anderlecht in 2019, at just 33 years old.
He later took charge of Burnley, guiding them to promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2022/2023 season. In the subsequent season, "The Clarets" failed to avoid relegation, leading to Kompany's departure from Turf Moor.
However, the Belgian tactician didn't remain unattached for long. Immediately after leaving Burnley, Kompany became the manager of Bayern Munich, the team he still coaches today and with whom he has won two trophies: the Bundesliga title (2024/2025) and the German Supercup, secured at the very start of this season.
