NPFL: Afonja Warriors beaten to a pulp on the road by Akwa United
Kwara United are firmly in the relegation zone after another poor outing in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Kwara dropped further points in the NPFL following a heavy defeat against Akwa United in Uyo on Monday evening.
The Promise Keepers were too good for their visitors after a 3-0 victory to boost their Super Six chances.
All the goals arrived in a blistering first-half performance with Kwara United getting a consolation to make the result more respectable.
Akwa United move up
The Godwill Akpabio Stadium was in a jubilant mood as the home side eased to victory in the battle of United.
Akwa were dominant and comprehensive in the win against a poor Kwara United side.
Taiye Muritala opened the floodgates in the 18th minute before Cyril Olisema doubled the advantage just before the half-hour mark.
And moments before the break, Ubong Friday made it 3-1 as Akwa went into the break home and dry.
The second half saw a more improved Kwara United, who started the second 45 minutes on a positive note and the result was immediate as Samad Kadiri pulled a goal back five minutes into the half.
Both sides tried to add to the scoreline but there would no further goals as Akwa United held on for the crucial win.
What the result means
After the win, Akwa returned to winning ways following that defeat in Jos against Plateau United the last time.
The win over Kwara moves them up to second in Group A on 25 points while Kwara, who have failed to win any of their last five matches, drop to eighth, just three points above relegation.
