Brazilian superstar Neymar is set to undergo surgery, which is set to keep him out of action for a significant period.
The 31-year-old recently moved to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League this summer, and he was billed to provide a counterbalance for the star power in rival teams—Cristiano Ronaldo in Al-Nassr and Karim Benzema in Al-Ittihad—after the Blue Waves missed out on Lionel Messi.
He has struggled with injuries in recent years and was unfit at the time of his signing. This led to a slow start to life as an Al-Hilal player but he was on the rise after scoring his first goal for Al-Zaeem in the AFC Champions League in their last outing. His progress has now been halted after suffering another injury.
Neymar set to undergo surgery
The former Barcelona forward was in action for Brazil this international break when the Selecao played Venezuela and Uruguay in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.
He featured in the draw against Venezuela, assisting Arsenal’s Gabriel Maghalaes for the opener; however, in the defeat to Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay, he had to be stretched out at half-time after sustaining an injury.
He looked to be in agony after going down in pain, suggesting a serious injury. The fears have now been confirmed after Al-Hilal announced the player had hurt his ACL.
“The medical tests “NEYMAR ” underwent, confirmed the Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Meniscus tear injury in his knee. He will be going through surgery and then a treatment program that will be determined later.”
