Ogun Wrestling Association commends wrestlers' performance at the national trials

The Chairman of the Ogun State Wrestling Association, Taofeek Babalola, has praised the efforts of the state's three wrestlers who competed in the national trials for the African championship in Tunisia.

Nothing less than one hundred and fifty wrestlers drawn across the federation participated in the trials held in Bayelsa.

At the trials, Dr. Babalola Samson finished fifth in the 70kg men’s freestyle, Atere Kehinde came third in the 92kg category, and Ayodele Peace got the third position in the 59kg in women’s freestyle event.

Dr. Babalola stated the association will not stop working to make sure the athletes are exposed to additional competitive tournaments and praised the wrestlers' accomplishments despite not making it to Tunisia.

He encouraged the athletes not to rest on their oars in their quest to win laurels for the state and Nigeria in subsequent competitions.

The wrestling association applauded the permanent secretary of the ministry of youth and sports' cooperation but was told that additional work was still needed to help the association achieve its objectives.

On his part, the wrestling head coach, Badmus Adebayo, appreciated the association's support for the athletes during and after the trials.

Adebayo said the fact that the athletes were invited to the National Trials in Bayelsa was an indication of good things to come for the sports in the state.
