PAC backs NCS's Bernard Ogwel to tighten stance on sports federations

While appearing before the committee, NCS Board Chairperson, Ambrose Tashobya, accused some sports federations of failing to submit proper accountability reports to the council as required by law.

NCS is mandated to promote and develop sports as they play a crucial role in managing and approving the expenditures of sports federations.

"It is our wish that all these federations receive and spend money in a manner which fits the law so that they can come back for more," Tashobya told PAC.

"But there is a high level of adamancy from some of the federations claiming we are overburdening them with accountability," Tashobya added.

NCS General Secretary Bernard Patrick Ogwel defended withholding funds for federations who have failed to account for previous funds allocated to them.

"It is not proper to give a federation more funds when it has failed to account for the funds in the previous financial year."

"However, we are doing everything possible to strengthen our collaboration with these federations," Ogwel noted.

However, PAC Chairman Asuman Basalirwa advised NCS not to frustrate the activities of federations over the misdeeds of individuals.

"Nobody should be disadvantaged because of the misdeeds of an individual or federation president."

"But, in the meantime, NCS should engage directly with the service provider," Basalirwa said to the NCS official present.
