Paris 2024: Curry Magic leads USA to beat Serbia, face France for Olympic Gold
The US men's basketball team were almost upset on Thursday night but they just managed to defeat Serbia in the Olympic semifinal in Paris.
Though the rest of the world has been catching up to the Americans recently, the squad, led by LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and a plethora of NBA All-Stars, were anticipated to cruise to another Olympic title.
Rather, they nearly lost against a squad captained by the world's finest player, three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić.
Serbia had a 76-63 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter, and the US needed to exert a lot of effort to catch up.
The United States had taken home gold in eight of the previous ten Olympics heading into the Paris Games; their only defeat came in 2004 when they took home bronze.
The American team's heroes in their 95-91 triumph were Curry and James.
Curry scored 36 points, while James achieved a triple-double.
After the hosts defeated Germany 73-69 in the other semifinal in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, the US will play France in the championship game.
