'People can say what they want' — Boniface ready to replace injured Osimhen against Libya

Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface is feeling no pressure to fill the goal-scoring void left by Victor Osimhen's absence due to injury.

Osimhen is sidelined for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations doubleheaders against Libya, and Boniface is the frontrunner to take his place in the starting lineup.

The 23-year-old Leverkusen striker has endured criticism due to his performances for Nigeria, as he is yet to score for the Super Eagles in 8 appearances.

Speaking about the weight of expectations, Boniface said (via Football Fans tribe)

"I don't feel any pressure. It's not just me; we have other strikers, Kelechi, Awoniyi, and myself. If I play, or if any of us play, we'll try to get the win."

"The most important thing is the team's performance. If we're winning and I'm not scoring, then I don't have any problem.

"Whatever people want to say, they should say it, but as long as we're getting the win, then it's fine by me."

The first leg between Nigeria and Libya will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, and kick off at 5 PM local time.
