PGMOL admit to error as referee failed to send Everton player off against Liverpool

Liverpool moved closer to winning the Premier League after defeating Everton 1-0 on Wednesday night.

However, the highlight of the game was Tarkowski’s tackle on Alexis Mac Allister, which caused a lot of controversy. 

The referee deemed the tackle worthy of a yellow card instead of a red card, and VAR failed to intervene.

According to The Guardian, the PGMOL contend that the video assistant referee (VAR), Paul Tierney, ought to have advised a pitchside review.

Tierney decided no further action was necessary as he felt the referee's call was not a clear and obvious error, despite a VAR check.

Tarkowski's follow-through on Mac Allister met the threshold for serious foul play and warranted a red card, despite initially playing the ball, according to PGMOL.

Liverpool was then contacted by Howard Webb, the head of PGMOL, to acknowledge the recent major VAR error.

The Red continue to maintain their top spot in the EPL, with a 13-points gap over their title rivals Arsenal.
