Pitso Mosimane: Ex-Sundowns and Al Ahly Coach Accepts Offer from Tanzanian Giants
Veteran South African coach Pitso Mosimane has been without a job since leaving Iranian side Esteghlal FC in January this year but he has now landed a new role in East Africa.
Mosimane is considered one of the best and most successful African coaches following his trophy-laden stint with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly and he has also coached in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The former Bafana Bafana coach won five league titles with Sundowns and three CAF Champions League crowns, one with the South African side and two with Al Ahly, and after conquering club football, he has been keeping himself busy with his Mosimane Soccer Schools.
Mosimane’s schools are a talent hub where kids not only learn about football but are also taught life skills and it is from its success in South Africa that he received an offer from Tanzanian giants Yanga to help train coaches at the club's youth academy, the Yanga Soccer School.
Tanzanian Giants Thrilled to Have Veteran SA Coach
"We have spoken with coach Pitso Mosimane, who has accepted our request to provide training for our youth coaches. Our aim is to utilise his football philosophy and strengthen ours as well," Yanga president Hersi Said revealed during Mosimane’s unveiling to the media in Dar es Salaam last weekend.
"We are very grateful to coach Mosimane for accepting the invitation to join us on this historic day.
"The project is a continuous one, where we will take children under the age of 11 (U-11), under the age of 13 (U-13), and under the age of 15 (U-15).
"We will not limit ourselves to the Dar es Salaam region alone, but we will expand our scope to various parts of Tanzania. This platform will help us a lot in raising talents, which we can use in our youth teams," he added.
Mosimane was thrilled to take up the opportunity to nurture the next generation of Tanzanian players, reliving some of the best memories he has with Yanga from his previous visit to the club.
What Has Mosimane Said About Yanga’s Role?
"I would like to sincerely thank the president of Yanga SC. The president and I have been close friends for a very long time," Mosimane said at the event.
"I once came here for the Mwananchi Day festival. It was truly a unique and very successful day. Yanga fans love their team deeply. Congratulations. You are a model to others.
“On Mwananchi Day, I was very impressed by the energy of the supporters. While we were in the car, I told the Yanga president, ‘Start a football academy.’ I am very happy that today I am here at the launch," Mosimane added.
Mosimane conducted training with the youth coaches as well as the young players while explaining the need to have the right facilities at the youth academy as that is how the kids will easily grasp the basics.
