Real Madrid vs Manchester United: Onana chipped on his debut as Red Devils lose again
Manchester United’s new goalkeeper Andre Onana has tasted his first action for the club after he featured against Real Madrid.
Onana made his debut and played from start to finish in United’s 2-0 defeat to Los Blancos at the NRG Stadium in Houston on Thursday morning.
England international Jude Bellingham and Joselu netted the goals in either half to give the LALIGA giants the victory.
Onana debuts for United
Exactly one week after his celebrated move from Inter Milan, Onana stepped on the pitch with his new teammates.
United made the 27-year-old the third most expensive goalkeeper in history when they prised him away from Serie A side Inter Milan week.
However, his first game in a United shirt didn't go to plan as the Red Devils conceded for the first time in their preseason matches.
Bellingham was the first player to score against Onana and the strike from the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder was a ridiculous chip.
The second goal was even more ridiculous, a bicycle kick from super-sub Joselu late on to seal the deal for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
Fans react
Of course, social media went agog after those goals, especially that audacious chip from Bellingham as some blamed his positioning for the goal.
Here is how fans reacted on Twitter in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Onana’s overall game
In the end, despite letting in two goals, Onana did show flashes of what to expect from him on and off the ball during his era at Old Trafford.
Therefore, it wasn't all gloom and doom for the Cameroonian goalkeeper. He made three outstanding saves, completed 95% of his passes, had 51 touches, made 39 passes and completed four of five attempted long passes.
Onana was very involved in what United did throughout the game and United fans were generally happy with his first outing for the club.
