Relief for Manchester United fans: Andre Onana heads to Trabzonspor to complete move
Onana joined Manchester United in 2023 from Inter for a fee exceeding €50 million. However, the Cameroonian has largely disappointed with his performances.
He played 102 matches for the "Red Devils," conceding 150 goals and keeping only 24 clean sheets. This season, his only appearance for Manchester United was in the embarrassing Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby.
On the final day of the transfer window, Manchester United brought in Belgian goalkeeper Sen Lamens, who is reportedly being groomed as a long-term starter.
Trabzonspor, meanwhile, were also urgently seeking a prominent name to guard their net after selling their previous first-choice keeper, Uğurcan Çakır, to Galatasaray for €33 million plus €3 million in bonuses.
Onana set for departure
The two clubs reached an agreement yesterday, pending only the decision of the 29-year-old Cameroonian shot-stopper.
Facing the prospect of being merely the third-choice goalkeeper, the Premier League player has ultimately agreed to the move to Trabzonspor.
According to reports on Sportal, this is a straight loan deal, with no option to buy and no fee paid by the Turkish club.
Onana is expected to travel to Turkey next week, with the player's side having already signed off on everything. The deal is anticipated to be officially announced soon.
