According to England legend Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo must accept he can no longer play 90 minutes if Portugal are to stand any chance of winning EURO 2024.
The former Newcastle striker believes a reduced role for Ronaldo could unlock Portugal's attacking potential as they look to reclaim the title they won in 2016.
The 39-year-old failed to score as Portugal came from behind to defeat the Czech Republic 2-1 in their opener.
Shearer says Ronaldo must accept reduced role
“This is key to whether Portugal can go on and win the competition, because if he accepts he cannot play 90 minutes every game, that will go a long way to them winning this,” Shearer told BBC One.
“When waking up after games and having that desire to go again, when you are in pain, that hunger and desire to be the very best.
“Everyone speaks in glowing terms about his attitude, it is phenomenal.”
