Despite the penultimate round of Serie A matches concluding on Sunday, the 2024-25 league title remains undecided.

Antonio Conte’s men currently hold a slender one-point advantage over Inter heading into the final fixtures of the season.

The Partenopei’s goalless draw away to Parma on Sunday, coupled with the Milan outfit’s 2-2 draw at home against Lazio — a match where they conceded a late equaliser from the penalty spot — means the title race will go down to the wire.

Sunday’s San Siro result prevented Inter from leapfrogging Napoli at the top of the table with just one game remaining.

Only one specific scenario now exists that would trigger a one-off playoff match to determine the Serie A champions.

According to league regulations, a play-off is contested if the top two teams finish the season level on points.

Therefore, a title-deciding fixture will happen if Napoli lose their final match against Cagliari in Naples and Inter draw their final game away at Como.

Any other result combination will see the title decided on the final day. Maximum points for Conte’s team would secure them the Scudetto, while Inter would retain the title if they secure a victory over Cesc Fabregas’s men and the league-leading outfit drop points.

What’s next for Inter?

Inter still have to play in the Champions League final after May 25’s Serie A finale, and fans can be optimistic in the club’s prospects of a league and continental double.
