She's Ready: Fans notice Sha'Carri Richardson's obvious change in training as she returns to defend Pre Classic 100m title
With lots of anticipation ahead of the women's 100m event at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene, Sha'Carri Richardson was spotted in training looking sharp and ready as she returns to defend her title.
The world 100m champion who last competed in April at the Seiko Grand Prix, where she ran an underwhelming 11.4s to finish fourth, is set to rekindle her rivalry with Olympic champion Julien Alfred in a stacked 100m field that has been described as the deepest in Diamond League history.
On paper, based on season's best performances, Alfred (10.75s) and world leader Melissa Jefferson-Wooden (10.73s) stand as the favourite for a famous win; however, that is now looking blurry based on what has been seen of Richardson in training.
She was recorded in a video on the Eugene track, warming up solo while enjoying the music playing in her headphones.
Interestingly, the video reveals Richardson appears more muscular compared to her last track appearance in Japan, indicating that the sprint queen has been dedicated to strength training in the weight room.
Judging her current form in the video, she looks ready and in better shape, a vital warning to her rivals of her readiness to get back to winning ways.
However, it won't be an easy task as the loaded 100m field also includes newly crowned Jamaican champion Tina Clayton, who is in her best career shape, as well as in-form sprint sensation Favour Ofili.
A win for Richardson will see her become the first American woman to win back-to-back Pre Classic 100m titles since Torri Edwards (2006-2008).
While victory for anyone in the field will highly increase her bragging rights as the favourite for the world title in Tokyo in September.
