Super Eagles legend Mikel Obi cooked by host on live TV after questioning Arteta's spending
The Gunners sealed the second position for the third time in a row after defeating Newcastle 1-0 at the Emirates on Sunday evening.
The win secured UEFA Champions League qualification for Arteta’s men, who have had a difficult season due to injuries.
However, despite facing his own challenges, Mikel Obi criticised the manager for Arsenal's failure to win a trophy.
Mikel Obi placed on hot seat
Mikel was live on beIN Sports for the weekend Premier League coverage, where he spoke about Arteta’s spending at Arsenal.
Speaking in a video shared on X, he said, “It's about winning trophies. Yes, he got there, but he didn't get them over the line. It's the same thing. He always comes second.
“It's always next season about Arsenal. Now we're talking again about next season. Now he wants to spend again in the summer. He has actually spent 7 to 800 million. It's a lot of money spent.”
The host, Nicky Crosby, then interrupted Mikel and said, “You spend a billion dollars in one season.
“When you break it down, that's 34 players, 28 purchases and the rest on loan over six seasons. It's actually not that much when you break it down.”
Mikel then replied, trying to defend Chelsea’s spending, “I know that when you're talking about us spending 1 billion, yes, we're in a transition period.”

He claimed that Arteta can not spend over 600 million pounds on transfers in five years and has just the FA Cup to show for it.
His comment was then interrupted by the host, who claimed that Mikel Obi’s former club, Chelsea, spent 1 billion pounds in a season and he did not question their spending.
Arsenal will be looking to bring in new players in the summer to improve their chances of winning a major trophy next season.
