Nigerian football legend John Mikel Obi has revealed his favourite guest on his hit show, The Obi One Podcast, and surprisingly, it’s not Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, despite the forward’s growing global fame.
Mikel, who has hosted an impressive lineup of football icons, named two former Chelsea collaborators as his standout guests.
Chelsea icons top Mikel’s list
In a recent interview, the former Chelsea and Super Eagles midfielder opened up about his favourite podcast moments, admitting that while he’s had countless memorable guests, two stood out above the rest.
“One of my favourite guests was José Mourinho. José was absolutely brilliant when he came on. Some really good conversation. And of course, JT [John Terry], you know, he was my first guest. So for me, José Mourinho and John Terry,” Mikel confessed.
The revelation came as a surprise to fans who expected Victor Osimhen to feature among his top picks, especially after the Nigerian forward’s engaging appearance on the podcast.
However, Mikel’s connection with Mourinho and Terry runs deep. Both men were key figures in his career at Chelsea, where Mikel spent over a decade, winning two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the Champions League in 2012, and the Europa League in 2013.
Their shared history undoubtedly explains Mikel’s admiration. Mourinho was the manager who brought him to Stamford Bridge in 2006, while Terry was his captain for nearly his entire Chelsea career.
