Szymon Marciniak, who was involved in controversial decision in UCL semi-final set to be axed from Euro 2024

Matthijs de Ligt's equaliser in stoppage time gave Thomas Tuchel's side hope of taking the game to extra time with Real Madrid.

But before the ball even touched the net, Polish referee Marciniak blew his whistle, awarding Noussair Mazraoui an offside call even though it may have been just barely onside.

According to Przeglad Sportowy, a sports daily published in Poland, Marciniak was scheduled to officiate the opening European Championship event of the summer, which was scheduled to take place in Munich on June 14 between hosts Germany and Scotland! 

However, after Wednesday's match in Madrid, UEFA is now reevaluating this appointment, with the likelihood of him taking over being "nearly zero."

Marciniak officiated the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France, as well as other games at Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup. 

Last month, UEFA verified the names of 18 referees, their assistants, and the VARs on their roster of tournament officials.

Referees Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor, as well as VAR assistants Stuart Attwell and David Coote, are among the English representatives.
