Watambala enjoyed a productive season with Vipers, helping them retain their Ugandan Premier League title, having scored 12 goals in the top flight while weighing in with a number of assists to be crowned the Most Valuable Player.

That has attracted suitors and as per reports in Tanzania, he is courting the interest of giants Yanga who want to unite him with ex-Vipers teammate Allan Okello.

Watambala is one of the highly-rated players in the Ugandan league but it looks like Vipers might struggle to keep hold of him.

Watambala to Command Huge Fee

The reports claim Yanga have explored the possibility of bringing back fan favourite Stephane Aziz Ki, who is currently playing for big-spending Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli but face signficant obstacles.

With that in mind, they are looking at other options and Watambala is seen as a suitable alternative as he brings lots of goals and assists.

Yanga are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season when they hope to go have a deep run in the CAF Champions League following their group stage exit in 2025-26.

The Tanzanian champions will, however, have to fork out a huge sum to convince Vipers to sell their prized asset as was the case with Okello, who moved to the club for a transfer fee reported to be $300,000 (UGX1.1 billion) in January and is reportedly earning $15,000 (UGX55.2 million) per month, having also pocketed a signing-on fee of $100,000 (UGX368.6 million).
