The millions Kitende, Kawempe pocketed for winning the CECAFA Zonal CAF African Schools Championship
St. Mary's Secondary School Kitende (SMASK) rounded off the CECAFA Zonal CAF African Schools qualifiers in style, winning the championship and pocketing a giant cheque.
The Ugandan representatives in the boys' category edged Tanzania 4-2 via post-match penalties after the game had ended in a one-all stalemate.
In winning the title, Kitende qualified for the CAF African Schools Championship slated for 2024.
They also pocketed a massive USD. 100,000, which is the equivalent of about Ugx. 360 million.
Meanwhile, Kawempe Muslim, who clinched the girls' championship after defeating Kenya, also bagged the same amount, a massive return for the hard work.
It should be noted that prior to the final against the Tanzanians, Kitende picked five wins in as many games in the group.
They beat Somalia, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania to lead the table before setting up a final with the latter.
Kitende (Team Uganda) ended the tournament undisputedly as they scored 12 goals and conceded just three.
In just the second year of the tournament, Ugandan teams in the boys' category have emerged as regional champions and thus represented CECAFA in the continent.
Last year, Royal Giants High School clinched the CECAFA title, representing Uganda and the entire CECAFA region.
