What Jan Tomaszewski said

Polish football icon Jan Tomaszewski gave a blunt assessment of the 35-year-old’s situation in an interview with Super Express, warning that Lewandowski’s status at Barcelona is waning and that a move to the Middle East might be the best next step.

“Robert should finish his time at Barcelona right now and go to a ‘lighter’ club in Saudi Arabia, as the best players in the world have done, except Messi,” Tomaszewski said.

Tomaszewski claims Lewandowski no longer enjoys the trust of some of his teammates at Barça.

“Let’s face it, this is the end. Robert is not very popular in the team, and the best players in Barcelona don’t pass the ball to him," he added.

He further warned that the striker, despite his seniority, could find himself warming the bench more often under manager Hansi Flick.

He added, “He stood firm. Of course, he has every right to stay. But he must realise that next season he will be a substitute.”

With Flick at the helm, reports suggest Ferran Torres or Dani Olmo could be used as central attackers in a more fluid front line. Despite this, Lewandowski is expected to retain a key role after enjoying his most prolific campaign at the club, scoring important goals and finishing as Barcelona’s top scorer.

Yet the emergence of young talents, the addition of Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United, and a new tactical direction could limit his minutes as the club focuses on rebuilding.
