‘They were better than us’ - Ancelotti bows to Arsenal's dominance in quarterfinal clash
Arsenal secured a 5-1 aggregate victory over Real Madrid, advancing to the semifinal after a 2-1 win at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday night.
Saka missed a penalty but made up for it with a finesse move and a delicate chipped finish to break the tie in the 65th minute.
Vinicius Jr. closed the gap to three goals just two minutes later after William Saliba's error, but an injury-time goal by Gabriel Martinelli secured an away victory.
Ancelotti speaks on defeat
After the game, Carlo was asked to sum the game up from a Real Madrid perspective and how he feels about the loss.
Speaking to Football on TNT Sports, he responded, “Of course we are out of this competition. That was really important, but to analyse, we want to analyse the game, we tried to put more pressure on this game was difficult because I think Arsenal defended really well.
“They were really compact as they are used to be. The team is really strong defensively and to be honest, they deserve to win this qualification, and I hope for them the best.”
"There are no excuses. In the two games, they were better than us." 🤝
