Transfer News: Atlético Madrid Targets Reinforcements from Betis and Villarreal

Atlético Madrid's disappointing season, culminating in their elimination from the Club World Cup and a trophyless year, has spurred them into action.

The Spanish side have made a move for Real Betis and Villarreal stars as they look to boost their attack ahead of the new season.

Marca, via Abola, reports the club is in advanced negotiations to acquire two key players for the 2025/26 season.

The first target is 23-year-old American international Johnny Cardoso. Cardoso played a pivotal role in Real Betis's successful campaign, making 46 appearances and contributing to their 6th-place finish in La Liga and their run to the Conference League final.

The deal, reportedly worth €30 million plus add-ons, includes a five-year contract for the midfielder. Negotiations are expected to conclude swiftly with the Atlético Madrid squad's return to Madrid.

Shifting focus to bolstering their attack, Atlético are also in advanced talks with Villarreal's attacking midfielder, Álex Baena.

The Spanish international boasts impressive recent form: over the past two La Liga seasons, no player has tallied more assists than Baena's 24.
