UCL: Guardiola excited for De Bruyne reuion as Man City face Italian champions Napoli

Pep Guardiola is not surprised by how quickly Kevin De Bruyne has settled in at Napoli, with the manager stating that a player of his talent level will always adapt fast.

The 34-year-old playmaker, who spent a decade at the Etihad Stadium, returns to his old stomping ground this week as Manchester City host the Serie A outfit in their Champions League opener on Thursday.

De Bruyne has started the season in excellent form, scoring two goals in his opening three league games for Antonio Conte's men.

Asked if he was looking forward to seeing his former star player, Guardiola gave a typically wry response. "After the game, yes!"

The City manager went on to praise De Bruyne's immediate impact at his new club. "It’s not a surprise, players at that level adapt so quick. They don’t need much time to adapt and perform well."

Guardiola, who managed De Bruyne to six Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy, was also asked what makes the Belgian so successful. The Spaniard was quick to praise his former player’s unique qualities.

"His incredible talent, vision, passing, goals in the final third. He is unique."

Despite being a club legend and the jewel of the City fans for a decade, De Bruyne will be keen to help his new side get a win on his old turf.
