Paris Saint-Germain are launching civil action after alleged racist abuse directed at their players, following their 1-0 Champions League victory against Arsenal on Tuesday.

What happened?

As reported by The Athletic, footage captured by PSG staff appeared to show individuals making monkey noises and chest-beating gestures as the team boarded their bus outside the Emirates Stadium.

PSG will collaborate with anti-racism organisation SOS Racisme in pursuing legal action.

Arsenal have stated they strongly condemn all forms of racism and are working to identify the individuals involved promising to take strong action. 

SOS Racisme has also condemned the behaviour and will assist the Gunners in their identification efforts.   

UEFA may also impose sanctions on Arsenal for the alleged racist behaviour similar to previous punishments given to other clubs for fan offences in the Champions League.

Tuesday’s alleged incident follows recent arrests of Aston Villa supporters for alleged hate crimes during their Champions League match against PSG last month.

PSG welcome Arsenal to Paris in Wednesday’s second leg, aiming to avoid Mikel Arteta’s men from overturning a 1-0 first-leg loss.
