Uganda keen on qualifying for T20 Women's World Cup on home soil

Uganda Women's Cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, will be hoping they can make it to the Global Women's World Cup when they take on seven other sides in the qualifiers that get underway on Sunday in Entebbe.

Victoria Pearls' head coach, Lawrence Ssematimba, has expressed optimism that his team can make it to the globals, given their preparations leading up to the tournament.

"We have a great group of players; I would like to thank the Uganda Cricket Association for being intentional about our preparations this year," Ssematimba started.

"The girls got contracts in March this year, and that was in preparation for this tournament," he added in appreciation.

"We have had at least three international tournaments that helped us prepare against some of the sides that are coming to Kampala."

"We have prepared well, and I'm sure if we do our basics right, we shall be able to qualify for the globals," Ssematimba summed.

The Victoria Pearls are pooled in Group B along with Nigeria, Namibia and Rwanda and will enter the fray on Sunday against the latter.

They will then take on Namibia Tuesday before rounding off with West Africans Nigeria.
