Victor Osimhen: ‘Enjoy yourself because you worked hard for it’ - Super Eagles star advises footballers
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has shared important life lessons for aspiring footballers, urging them to enjoy the fruits of their labour while also prioritising wise financial decisions and family support.
What Victor Osimhen said
Speaking candidly in an interview, the 2023 CAF Player of the Year reflected on the short lifespan of a football career and the importance of balancing enjoyment, responsibility, and investment.
“Football is not so long, maybe 35 years or so, and you’ll stop. Or like Ronaldo, maybe 20 to 25 years to play. And there are injuries too,” Osimhen explained.
The 26-year-old striker, who rose from the streets of Lagos to global stardom, emphasised the need to spend wisely, even while enjoying the rewards that come with professional success.
“When you are earning, you should spend wisely, and also spend to enjoy yourself — because you worked hard for it,” he advised.

The former Lille and Wolfsburg striker didn’t stop at family support; he also highlighted financial literacy as a key to sustaining success beyond the pitch.
“Just invest. Invest your money so that it can bring you more money. For me, that’s one of the few lessons I’ve also learned.”
He also acknowledged the role of his elder brother, whom he says has been instrumental in guiding his career and financial choices.
“My elder brother is there to guide my footsteps, so for me, life has been good.”
