Angola throw Group E open
The hosts Central African Republic went into the encounter needing just a win to seal a place in next year’s competition.
However, the found themselves behind at home as early as the 12th minute when Kialonda Gaspar put the away side in front.
Atletico Madrid’s Geoffrey Kondogbia level the scores early on in the second half but it turned out to be just a consolation goal in the end.
With four minutes left to play, Mendes aka Milson turned out to be the hero when finished with a thunderous header from a well-delivered free kick from Eddie to seal the win.
What it means
With the win, Angola denied the CAR the chance to seal the ticket and revived their AFCON 2023 hope heading into the final game of the qualifiers.
Angola have now leapfrogged CAR into the second spot with eight points, just one ahead of CAR with just a game to go.
