Watch: Reliving the best moment Lookman sent Nigerians wild against Cameroon
Ademola Lookman's stunning second goal against Cameroon in AFCON 2023 capped off an awe-inspiring team move by the Nigeria Super Eagles.
The Super Eagles became the second team to book a spot in the last eight after a deserved 2-0 defeat of bitter rivals Cameroon in the round of 16 on Saturday night, with Lookman scoring a brace.
Lookman's Spectacular Goal for Super Eagles
With the Super Eagles looking to see off the game in added time, a moment of magic involving the 26-year-old Atalanta BC forward, Bassey and Alex Iwobi, served Nigeria’s most memorable moment yet in Cote d’Ivoire.
Displaying a remarkable one-touch passing, Nigeria orchestrated a mesmerising sequence that tore apart the Indomitable Lions’ defence, culminating in Calvin Bassey's precise cross that found Lookman for a clinical finish.
This goal, the second in Nigeria's 2-0 victory in the last-16 clash, showcased a dynamic attacking style and technical skill that Nigerians know some of the players possess but were yet to display at the AFCON 2023.
The sequence began with Lookman's initiative after a free kick, as he navigated into the Cameroon box, with speed and purpose, before linking up with Alex Iwobi. Iwobi's pinpoint pass threaded through the defensive lines in a sharp and incisive buildup to find clubmate, Bassey.
Taking advantage of the space on the wide left by the Indomitable Lions, the versatile defender delivered a perfectly executed cross to Lookman, who displayed impeccable skill to direct the ball into the far corner with a first-time finish from eight yards to wrap up the show and send Nigerians around the world into pandemonium.
The goal was not aesthetically eye-catching but also stands out as arguably Nigeria's best moment in the tournament thus far at the AFCON 2023.
