Manchester City, while still a top team, were not as consistently brilliant this season compared to their previous high standards.

City experienced a nightmare season plagued by injuries and other setbacks, ultimately finishing third in the Premier League, 13 points behind champions Liverpool.

What Guardiola said

Manchester City has endured a tough year, but will bounce back as it always has under Pep Guardiola, the Catalan coach insisted.

"I want to suffer when we don't win. I need to feel awful. I want to lose sleep. When things don't go as expected, it affects me. That's exactly how I should feel right now.

"I'm angry and even my food tastes bland. If I didn't feel this anger, what's the point? We are in this world to experience these emotions," Guardiola said, as quoted by Sportal.

The Catalan manager has won 12 league titles across Spain, Germany, and England, but last season marked the first trophyless campaign of his career. While not viewing it as a major tragedy, he acknowledged the season as perhaps his most challenging at Manchester City.

"Happiness comes with winning. Success is defined by victory, that's the problem. This time we finished third, but we never gave up. If we had, we'd have likely ended up tenth or twelfth. We faced so many challenges with injuries and fatigue, and that’s not easy.

"We also secured Champions League qualification when it looked like we might miss out," he added. "You fall, you get up, and you carry on. You fall again, you get up again, and you keep going. Being able to do that, that’s the greatest success," the City manager affirmed.
