Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has shared a touching tribute to Luis Diaz, who has completed a €75 million (£65 million) move to Bayern Munich, ending his three-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield.
Diaz has signed a four-year deal with Bayern, with a salary reportedly around €14 million per year (~£250k/week)
The Colombian winger's departure marks a major change for Liverpool, compounded by the emotional impact of Diogo Jota's recent death.
What Salah said
Salah described Diaz’s exit as not just a sporting loss, but a deeply emotional one for the team and fans.
Taking to Instagram, Salah praised Diaz’s character and resilience,
"Your energy, drive, and passion on the pitch have left a mark that won’t be forgotten. We were truly lucky to have you at Liverpool, and it’s been an honour to share part of your journey and success story."
Salah continued, "As a teammate, you were more than reliable, you were inspiring. As a friend, even more so. We all saw the strength it took to keep going through the tough times off the pitch. What you went through would’ve broken most, but you came back strong and gave everything for the club. That kind of resilience sets an example for others and earns nothing but respect."
"Wishing you all the best for what’s next, Lucho. Keep making your people proud," he concluded.
Diaz joined Liverpool in January 2022 from FC Porto and quickly became a fan favourite with his performances.
In 148 appearances, he scored 41 goals and helped the club to four trophies, including: The Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield.
