Kagoya played a massive role in the team’s success; her block in the middle and occasional attacks helped Shilla Omuriwe’s side take charge of the finals.

KCCA Ladies’ centre blocker Zainah Kagoya believes teamwork and a strong bond helped the side win the National Volleyball League title.

KCCA defeated Sport-S 2-0 in a three-game series to win their first title in 17 years. Despite starting both games on the back foot, the Kasasiro Girls recovered to win Games One and Two with the same 3-1 score line.

“Teamwork landed us on top,” Kagoya told Pulse Sports on Thursday.

“That strong team bond helped us as well. It wasn’t easy,” she added.

Kagoya played a massive role in the team’s success; her block in the middle and occasional attacks helped Shilla Omuriwe’s side take charge of the finals.

The former VVC blocker stepped up in the semifinals to limit Ndejje Elites’ hard hitter Catherine Ainembabazi and help the team recover from a game down to win the series 2-1.

“As an individual, I had to concentrate on what I can do best.”

KCCA relied on their experience to make light work of Sport-S in the finals despite finishing behind the Nsambya-based side in the regular season.

Omuriwe and her charges had to overcome a slow start to the season, which saw them fall in straight sets to Ndejje in the very first game of the season.

A 3-0 win over Sport-S to end the first round showed signs of progress made by KCCA, who went on to end the regular season with an 11-3 record and second on the log.

The playoffs started with a 3-1 loss to Ndejje, but KCCA recovered to win four straight games and clinch the title.
