Kiplimo's incredible milestone matched the record set five years back in 2018 by compatriot Joshua Cheptegei.

World cross-country champion Jacob Kiplimo put an excellent performance at the NN Zevenheuvelenloop in Nijmegen, matching the world best for the 15km distance with a time of 41:05 on Sunday.

In a race dominated by Uganda, Rogers Kibet clinched second after running an impressive 42:44, Kenya's Amos Seren finished third at 43:07.

In a carefully executed plan, Kiplimo started the race with a relatively measured pace, allowing other competitors to take an initial lead.

However, during a testing climb between 3.5km and 5km, the 23-year-old navigated it with absolute ease, crossing the 3km mark in 8:42 – only 20 seconds behind Cheptegei's pace from his 2018 record-setting run.

At this point, he had closed the gap, and at the 5km mark, timed at 14:24, he had begun escaping from the competitors, and his dominion over the race only grew firmer till the finish line.

That was before a superb finish in a 2:31 final kilometre, the fastest of the race, propelling him to finish in 41:05.

It should be noted that Kiplimo missed the World Championships and the World Road Running Championships in Budapest and Riga, respectively, through injury.

Yesterday was his second victory since his return from the setback in October, having also scooped a win at the Atapuerca World Cross Country Tour Gold Meeting.
