The removal of her wig raised different concerns with some Twitter users saying that she was throwing shade at the Jamaican sprinters.

American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has explained the reason why she removed her wig before racing the 100m final during the US Track and Field Championships held over the weekend.

The removal of her wig raised different concerns with some Twitter users saying that she was throwing shade at the Jamaican sprinters.

She has since set the record straight and revealed that the reason for her wig removal was to show the world that she is better than before.

“The reason why I decided to do the wig removal was to show you guys that I’m still that girl, but I’m better, stronger, and wiser. I had to shed the old and present the new,” Richardson said.

After the wig removal, Richardson went ahead and clocked 10.82 to become the National Champion. With the time she posted, she directly qualified for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where she will be hoping to stun other female athletes.

She made headlines after qualifying for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics but her slot was ripped away after she tested positive for marijuana. At the time, she said she used the drug legally in the state of Oregon while mourning the loss of her mother.

After that devastating blow, Richardson is back to competing and will hopefully qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“I’m ready mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’m here to stay. I’m not back…I’m better,” she said in a post-race interview over the weekend.
