"And, as football (is) in the final, your opponent will and have really punished us for that," he added in an honest analysis.

The Uganda U20 team came short of scooping gold at the African Games after suffering a 1-0 defeat to hosts Ghana at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra on Friday.

Jerry Afiriye struck late for the Black Satellites to see them win the final, as the Hippos settled for silver.

It was the biggest achievement Uganda has ever reached at in the African Games history, as they had never won a medal, previously.

Meanwhile, following the defeat, Uganda Hippos head coach Morley Byekwaso underlined his side stood a chance had they taken their chances.

The side's best chance came to URA FC forward Bruno Bunyaga, who failed to strike in after a cutback from Patrick Kakande, with the defence well beaten.

"Everything was going on well, we created good chances in the first minutes but we didn't take them away," Byekwaso said to the press.

"And, as football (is) in the final, your opponent will and have really punished us for that," he added in an honest analysis.

"We really played well in first half, we held the opponents so well and we were going positive."

The event will last long in the memory for Ugandans, as the team won four of the five matches played, beating giants Nigeria (2-1) and Senegal 1-0 along the way.

The Hippos also beat neighbors South Sudan 1-0 and Congo Brazzaville 4-2 in the semifinals.

Before Friday's silver medal, the best Uganda had ever finished was fourth in 1999 in South Africa, where they won just one game.
