Kenyan international Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma commanded a substantial transfer fee and salary following his move from Swedish side AIK to Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa.

Kenyan defender Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma was sold for over Ksh150 million following his move from Swedish side AIK to Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa on Thursday.

The defender ended speculation over his future when he joined the Polish club on a two-year deal, with an option for as many more years, beginning a new chapter in his career.

Ouma has been a standout performer at AIK and attracted the interest of a number of clubs in Europe with the Swedish side agreeing to sell him in December and it appears the Polish side outbid other suitors to win his signature.

Reports in the Swedish press say AIK banked a fee in the region of 10m Swedish Krona (Ksh156,674,156) and has been offered a salary close to $10,000 (Ksh1,606,865) with his former club Vasalund guaranteed a 30 percent share of the transfer fee.

Following his move to Poland, AIK explained how they have classified Ouma’s transfer while breaking down the figures involved.

“AIK Fotboll AB has introduced a classification of player transfers based on the net result for each transfer according to the scale below: Class From (kSEK) To (kSEK) I. 0-2,500, II. 2,500-5,000, III. 5,000-10,000, IV. 10,000-20,000, V. 20,000-40,000 and VI. 40,000-70,000,” the club said on its website.

“The transfer of Erick Otieno to RKS Raków Częstochowa ends up in class III. The amounts in the scale refer to the net profit effect of a player sale in accordance with Uefa's definition of the performance measure "Player Trading", i.e. game sales with deductions for agent fees and other sales costs as well as depreciation on players.”

Ouma joined AIK in 2020 from another Swedish club Vasalund and made 104 appearances for the side, scoring four goals while providing 15 assists.

The Kenya international said he did not need any convincing to join Czestochowa as he was sure of acclimatising easily in Poland.

“Poland is a good league and I am proud to be in this great team which is doing well and playing good football,” Ouma said of his new club.

“I have not spoken to anyone because I think Poland and Sweden is the same the kind of weather is quite similar. Bartosz (Cekus) is a good coach, we had a good cooperation and enjoyed good moments while at AIK.”

Czestochowa are fourth in the Polish top flight with 32 points, nine behind leaders Slask Wroclaw, with a game in hand.
