Mohamed Kudus' agent believes that Chelsea were not serious with their summer transfer business after leading a number of players on before dumping them

Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus was close to joining Premier League giants Chelsea after agreeing to personal terms with the Blues this summer, but his agent, Jennifer Mendelewitsch, believes that a move did not materialise because the 2021 UEFA Champions League winners were not serious.

Kudus was a highly coveted talent this summer while he was still at Ajax, and attracted attention from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham.

Despite the interest from these clubs, Kudus ended up joining the 2023 Europa Conference League champions West Ham in a €40 million deal.

The Ghanaian midfielder’s agent was quick to point out in an interview with  RMC Sport that the former Ajax star could have been at a different club if the Blues backed up their interest with some more action.

According to Mendelewitsch, Chelsea had the upper hand for Kudus’ signature having agreed to a deal with the midfielder but faltered badly in their bid to Ajax, which was well below the club’s valuation of the Ghanaian.

Mendelewitsch said, “We had an agreement with Chelsea on a contractual level, but the deal didn’t happen. He [Kudus] spoke with Mauricio Pochettino but in the end, it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax.”

She further explained that Chelsea had been insincere with many players over the summer, including Kudus, saying, “There was no counter-offer. Chelsea did this to lots of players this summer”.

“They did with very low offers knowing they wouldn't be accepted. The truth is that they were completely taken by the transfer of Caicedo”

Kudus has gone on to star for West Ham in the Premier League and has already scored three times in eight games for the Hammers since his transfer.
